Street Animal Rescue · Puerto Rico
More than 500,000 stray animals roam the streets of Puerto Rico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome them — one life at a time.
Understanding the Problem
Puerto Rico has one of the highest concentrations of stray animals in the Western Hemisphere. Called satos (street dogs) and gatos callejeros (street cats), these animals endure hunger, disease, traffic, and abuse every single day.
Natural disasters like Hurricane María deepened the crisis, displacing thousands of animals whose owners could no longer care for them. Without intervention, the cycle continues — and grows.
We believe the answer is compassionate, community-driven rescue. Not abandonment. Not cruelty. Love.
What We Do
Our work begins the moment we spot a stray animal — and doesn't end until they have a safe, loving place to call home.
Our trained response teams patrol high-density stray areas across Puerto Rico, safely capturing and transporting injured or at-risk animals to our care facility.
Every rescued animal receives a full health assessment, vaccinations, parasite treatment, spay/neuter surgery, and any necessary medical procedures — completely free of charge.
We maintain a network of loving foster families and a comfortable shelter facility where animals recover, socialize, and prepare for their forever homes.
We carefully match rescued animals with vetted adoptive families — both locally in Puerto Rico and through our international adoption network in the continental US.
For feral colonies that can't be socialized, we humanely trap, sterilize, vaccinate, and return cats — stabilizing populations and reducing suffering long-term.
We partner with schools, municipalities, and neighborhoods to promote responsible pet ownership, reducing abandonment and cruelty through compassionate outreach.
Real Stories
Behind every statistic is a face, a name, and a story of survival. Meet some of the animals whose lives have changed thanks to your support.
Found on Calle del Sol with a broken leg after being struck by a motorcycle. After three months of surgery and rehab, Mango found a family in San Juan who couldn't imagine life without him.
Luna and her four kittens were discovered in a dumpster behind a restaurant in Ponce. All five were nursed to health. Luna was adopted locally; her kittens found homes in New York and Florida.
A true sato, Playa survived for years near the beach in Humacao. Severely malnourished and fearful of humans, she took six months to fully trust our team — and now lives in a home in Boston, Massachusetts.
Rescued from a feral colony in Bayamón after Hurricane season. Coco is currently in foster care recovering from an upper respiratory infection. She's playful, curious — and ready for the right home.
These bonded siblings were found tied to a fence with no food or water in Carolina. Inseparable through everything — they were adopted together by a family who fell in love with both at first sight.
Senior dog, approximately 9 years old. Found wandering alone in Mayagüez. Duende is gentle, calm, and loves long slow walks. He deserves to spend his golden years in comfort — could that be with you?
